Isabel Yuan was born in Nanjing China. From 1973 at a young age she was selected for professional Ballet training at the National Ballet School of China  in Beijing where she trained for 7 years, based on Russian Vaganova style. As a full time student she also had the privilege to study with guest teachers such as Margot Fontaine, Ben Stevenson, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and many other distinguished teachers. Isabel graduated with distinction in all subjects.


In 1980 Isabel moved to Tokyo Japan where she   danced as a Principal Dancer with the Tani Ballet Company in Japan for 15 years and worked with World famous Choreographers such as Robert de Bires (A.B.T. Ballet), and Michelle Brealle (Paris Opera Ballet). She performed in the most renowned classical Ballets such as  Las Sylphide, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Coppelia, La Bayadere, Cinderella, The Nutcracker, La Fille Mal Gardee, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake.


During this time she was also a featured guest Artist on National Television in both Japan and China. She had the privilege to guest perform with the Houston Ballet Company of the United States and as well danced with the National Ballet Company of Canada, amongst others.


In 1995 Isabel retired from dancing after sustaining an injury. She then immigrated to Canada where she studied at The National Ballet School of Canada to gain her teaching certification.


Isabel Yuan is now accredited with the National Ballet School Professional Dancers Teaching Certificate, Imperial Society Teachers of Dancing Associate and Advanced Certificates, Royal Academy of Dance Registered Teacher Certificate.


In 1996 after her teacher training Isabel was offered a full time teaching position at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. She taught Teacher’s training courses, as well as the professional Division and General Division.


Isabel now resides in Vancouver, B.C. and continues to teach primarily from intermediate up to solo seal level. She has also choreographed for many dance festivals and competitions Nationally and Internationally.

 

Over the years Isabel has been invited as a guest teacher in Canada and Internationally at The National Ballet School of China.


Having taught for two years at FVAD, Isabel became an RAD Due Examiner, examining both Vocational and Graded levels for the Royal Academy of Dance.  When her very full schedule permits, Isabel will return to FVAD to teach master classes.
